Seed Sowing Social

  • St. Joseph Villa 81 Lynn Avenue Hampton Bays, NY, 11946 United States (map)

The Ecological Culture Initiative will host a Seed Sowing Social on Saturday, April 1st, 2023, 3 - 5 PM at the historic St. Joseph Villa, 81 Lynn Ave, Hampton Bays, NY 🌱

Please join the staff of ECI for an afternoon of seed sowing and socializing. We will create potting mix, newspaper pots, and sow heirloom seeds. We will spend time in a classroom, our new greenhouse, and the outdoors (weather permitting). Participants can bring planted pots home to grow indoors, and then transfer to home gardens outdoors. A $5 fee (payable to ECI) covers all material costs. The classes are available to all ECI members. Delightful conversation, conviviality, & lots of laughter - after all, it's a social!

IMPORTANT: The current CDC COVID-19 community level for Suffolk County is Medium. The CDC recommends high quality masks (N95) when indoors for those at risk of getting very sick, including adults over 50.

Pre-Registration is not required

"We are encouraging people to plant edible gardens in their yards as a way of learning to grow their own food while getting in touch with nature. Many people have lost sight of where their food is coming from and how it is grown. Much of today's food is processed and unhealthy causing us to become ill from diabetes and obesity.

By growing our own vegetables we are empowered with the ability to provide healthy nourishment for ourselves and families and the knowledge that the food we are growing is fresh and organic.”

β€” President & Agro-Ecology Director Rachel Stephens
