Earth Day Celebration with Slow Food East End

  • 81 Lynn Avenue Hampton Bays, NY, 11946 United States (map)

ECI & Slow Food East End invites you to celebrate Mother Earth and all she provides for us.

About this event

Saturday April 23, from 1-4pm (rain date is April 24)

Join us for an afternoon of fun education for the whole family, it’s free to attend!

  • Passionate or curious about local farming practices?

  • Ready to up your gardening game?

  • Concerned about heathy lands and waters?

Join Slow Food East End and our community of farmers, food producers, gardeners, and educators at Saint Joseph Villa for a day of food and learning.

The Villa is located on the waterfront of the scenic Shinnecock Bay at 81 Lynn Avenue Hampton Bays. The Villa is also home to the Ecological Cultural Initiative's Good Ground Heritage Garden, and Shinnecock Kelp Farmers, a seed to sale, multigenerational collective of six indigenous women addressing climate crisis.

Enjoy a tour of ECI's garden and an introduction to kelp farming. There will also be a foraging walk, hands-on projects and displays from guest farmers and growers on the Villa lawns. Food and drinks from Mattitaco’s On the Road Food Truck and wine from Macari Vineyards will be available to purchase. There will also be an indoor screening of Farming Long Island , a documentary by Dom Aprile about the challenges facing Long Island farmers today, the importance of land conservation and local farming.

Slow Food East End supports healthy farming practices which are essential to a sustainable future so please join us on Earth Day to meet folks in our own community who are leading the way and learn directly from them. Talks and demonstrations will include information about composting, kelp farming, raised beds, no-till practices, hügelkultur, biodiversity, food production, seed sharing, clean water practices and so much more!
